PRODUCTION AND CULTIVARS

Our cellar produces exceptional quality wine for our own brands, as well as for companies that purchase wine in volume from us. White cultivars include Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Chardonnay, Colombard, Hanepoot and Viognier. The red offering consists of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Pinotage, Ruby Cabernet, Pontac and Tinta Barocca.

We have invested in the most effective production equipment and storage facilities and strive to consider the environment in all our cellar practices. To further minimise environmental impact, we collaborate with the Theewaterskloof Municipality to manage effluent water in a manner which is beneficial to both parties.

Our viticulture practices maximise quality and yield per block, supported by the latest technology in irrigation to ensure the optimal application of scarce water resources. We are fortunate to have four mesoclimates in the Villiersdorp area. Each mesoclimate enhances the different characteristics of a cultivar. To the north-east of Villiersdorp, the Bossieveld has hotter, drier conditions and lower rainfall. Villiersdorp Valley benefits from the cooling effect of the two surrounding mountain ranges and the deep soils of the valley floor. On the south-west side of Theewaterskloof dam vines grow on sandstone and clay soils. Prevailing winds over the dam have a cooling effect on the vineyards, with longer ripening periods. Eerstehoop on the northern side of the Groenlandberg, between Villiersdorp and Bot River, has mainly shale soil.
